About the Artist
As a child, I was always seen as naturally artistic and creative. Creativity felt like a need, not a want. I excelled in everything creative, art, dance, music, and theatre, and that never left me as I grew up. But the idea of choosing a career at eighteen absolutely horrified me. I wanted to create, yet I was constantly reminded that artists are starving. I switched my college path more times than I can count and eventually just gave up, working in bakeries and custom cake shops to support myself. It was never what I wanted, but I was creating, so that was something.
Around the 2020 pandemic, I convinced my husband to take wheel throwing classes together. I had dabbled in it back in high school and college and was honestly surprised at how naturally it came back to me. Taking mud and turning it into something functional just gave me life. When we moved to Greenville, SC in 2021, we lost access to an affordable studio community. But for what it would of cost us both to join a studio here, we could of bought all the equipment ourselves after a year or so. So that's exactly what we did. After a garage addition and a couple years, we finally had a place to call a studio. In January 2025 we bought a used wheel and started creating with zero intention of selling.
By fall of 2025 I had more pieces than I could give away, so I signed up for my first market. The support and validation I received from strangers was a feeling I honestly can't describe and hadn't felt in a really long time. I had grown so miserable in my full time job as a cake decorator, feeling like my creativity was being used for profit and just completely undervalued. So I quit and took the full leap into pottery.
And here we are, thanks for being here!
